Tiny Hippo Button

Since it worked out so marvelously with the tiny frog buttons, I designed a tiny hippo button.  So, there you go, another free pattern!

The keyboard is rather dirty.

This is only the head and the snout because otherwise it would become too large.

You will need:

· some puppet yarn in the desired colour

· a 1.5 mm hook

· some scrap yarn or polyfill for filling

· a pair of tiny black glass eyes

· a small safety needle or something to attach your hippo to your clothes

Abbreviations used: sc (single crochet), dec (decrease 2 stitches to 1), sl (slip stitch)

Head:

Round 1: Create a round of 6 in a circle.  You can either do that by chaining 2 stitches and then crochet 6 into the first one or with the magic circle technique.

Round 2: Sc 2 in each sc (12)

Round 3: *sc into sc, then sc 2 into the next one* repeat around (18)

Round 4: *sc into 2 sc, then sc 2 into the next one* repeat around (24)

Round 5-7: sc into each sc (24)

Round 8: *sc into 2 sc, then dec* repeat around (18)

Stuff the head. (If your eyes are not sewable like mine were, you might want to insert them now.)

Round 9: *sc into sc, then dec* repeat around (12)

Round 10: *dec* repeat around (6), sl and fasten off

If there is a small hole sew it together tightly.

Snout:

Round 1: Chain 5

Round 2: sc 2 down the chain, then 2sc in stitch twice, then sc 3 on the other side up the chain, then 3sc in the last stitch (12)

Round 3-6: sc into each sc (12), sl and fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing to head.

Assembly:

Sew glass eyes into head, and sew snout to head.  Add safety needle or equivalent.  Have fun!
